Criminal prosecution
In February 2022, the Eastern District Military Court found Nikita Uvarov guilty of undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities (Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment in a correctional colony.
According to investigators, Uvarov and two friends planned to blow up a virtual FSB building in the Minecraft game, and also made several Molotov cocktails and homemade explosive devices. Two of his friends agreed to cooperate with the investigation and received suspended sentences, while Uvarov did not admit his guilt.
In May 2022, the Military Court of Appeals upheld the verdict.
In January 2023, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation also upheld the verdict, rejecting the defense's appeal.
