It was organised by enthusiasts who try to support Russian political prisoners and their families by all available means - by raising funds for lawyers, sending letters, publicising the stories of people who were sent to prison for their political stance, and educational activities.
One of the project participants is Ksenia Kagarlitskaya, who knows first-hand what it means to be the daughter of a political prisoner. She was helped to organise the Berlin event by the Boris Kagarlitsky Support Group with the participation of our Foundation.
The Freedom Zone team emphasises that repression is a source of suffering not only for the prisoners themselves, but also for their loved ones. The initiative should form networks of support for such people and solidarity with those who oppose repression.
Although the project is relatively new, it has already attracted the attention of well-known public figures. Andrei Pivovarov and Oleg Orlov, who were released during the historic August 1 prisoner exchange, former local deputies Evgeny Stupin and Vitaly Bovar spoke at the festival. Andrei Rudom, founder of the Left Political Prisoners Support Fund, was also given the floor. Finally, one of those assisted by the Foundation found an opportunity to participate in the event remotely.
